You have just pulled up the range and checked in. Dinner near Laguna Serviced Apartments is genuinely sorted within five minutes: there is an award-winning restaurant next door in the Hooper Centre, and a handful of solid options sit within a short walk or quick drive of our front door on the corner of Gore and Hume Streets.
Below are four places we send guests on night one, ordered by how far you have to go. One is next door, two are a few minutes up in the CBD, and one keeps its kitchen open until midnight for the arrivals who ran late on the New England Highway. No trip planning required, just pick the one that suits the state everyone is in.
Qi’lin Oriental Cuisine: the closest dinner near Laguna Serviced Apartments
You can’t get closer than this. Qi’lin sits in the Hooper Centre at 187 Hume Street, a two-minute walk from our front door: head out the Gore Street side, past the shopping village, and it is right there. It is a multi-award-winning Chinese kitchen with around 139 dishes across a la carte, banquet and takeaway, and it has taken best Chinese restaurant honours repeatedly since 2012. The Peking duck is the one to order, roasted in an oven brought in from China, and the Cantonese sauces are all made in house. Dinner runs 5pm to 10pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays. Walk in without a booking, or carry a banquet back to your kitchen table.
Want a proper sit-down? La Pizzaiola on Margaret Street
If you would rather settle in, La Pizzaiola has been turning out wood-fired pizza since 1989. It is at 173 Margaret Street, about a four-minute drive or a 15-minute stroll north through the CBD from Laguna, up toward the Empire Theatre end of town. The menu runs beyond pizza to handmade pasta, veal, chicken and risotto, with the charred wood-fired bases the reason locals keep coming back. Dinner is 5:30pm to 9pm Tuesday to Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. Weekends get busy from about 6:30pm, so book ahead if you can, though an early table is usually fine on a walk-in. Children tend to be happy here fast, which counts on night one.
Prefer to book a table? Sofra Turkish Cuisine
Sofra is a short hop away at 164 Margaret Street, a four-minute drive from our door and one of Toowoomba’s steadier sit-down dinners. The kitchen leans into simple, fresh Turkish cooking: try the musakka, work through the mixed grills, pide and kebabs, and leave room for Turkish delight to finish. There are vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options across the menu, so a mixed table is easy to feed. Doors are open 11:30am to 9pm Sunday to Thursday and until 9:30pm Friday and Saturday. Bookings are worth making because seatings run to 90 minutes and Friday and Saturday nights fill early, though takeaway is there if you would rather eat back at Laguna.
Arriving late or feeding kids? The Spotted Cow
When the drive ran long and everyone is hungry now, The Spotted Cow is the safe call. This Toowoomba pub institution sits at 296 Ruthven Street, roughly a five-minute drive or a 15-minute walk from Laguna along the main strip, and its kitchen and bars stay open until midnight every single day. The menu is honest pub fare done well: rump steak, chicken parmigiana, fish and chips and burgers, with a serious craft-beer list alongside. It is fully licensed, child-friendly and takes walk-ins without fuss, so a late 9pm dinner with tired kids is no drama. There is onsite parking, alfresco tables and rarely a wait midweek.
FAQs about eating out on your first night
A few things guests ask at check-in when they are weighing up where to eat.
How late can we get dinner near Laguna?
The Spotted Cow on Ruthven Street runs its kitchen and bars until midnight every day, so a late arrival still eats well. Qi’lin, right next door in the Hooper Centre, serves until 10pm Tuesday to Sunday and packs takeaway if you would rather eat in your apartment.
Do we need to book, or can we just walk in?
Qi’lin and The Spotted Cow both take walk-ins comfortably, even on a Friday. Sofra asks you to book because tables turn on 90-minute seatings, and La Pizzaiola fills up on weekends, so a quick call ahead saves a wait. For a first night with no plan, walk-in is easy.
Is anywhere good for an early dinner with kids?
Yes. The Spotted Cow is child-friendly with a straightforward steak-and-parmy menu and opens from 10am, so an early 5pm dinner is no trouble. La Pizzaiola’s wood-fired pizzas land fast and please fussy eaters, and Qi’lin’s banquet plates are built for sharing across a family table.
Can we get food delivered to the apartment?
You can. Qi’lin does takeaway a two-minute walk from your door, and most of the Margaret Street venues list on the usual delivery apps. Your apartment has a full kitchen too, so the IGA and bakery in the Hooper Centre next door cover you if you would rather keep it simple.
Is there anywhere to eat right at Laguna?
Our onsite cafe, Toowoomba Coffee House, handles breakfast and lunch rather than dinner, so it is your first stop the next morning. For night one, every apartment has a full kitchen, and the Hooper Centre next door has an IGA, bakery and butcher if you would rather cook in and settle.
Night one should be the easy part, and from Laguna it is. Whether you walk next door to Qi’lin, drive five minutes to a table on Margaret Street or let The Spotted Cow feed a late arrival, dinner near Laguna Serviced Apartments is never far. Unpack tomorrow, let the first evening look after itself, and start the trip properly rested. When you are ready to plan the stay, book your apartment with us and browse what is close by so you arrive knowing the lie of the land.
