  • Experience Toowoomba Live Steamers Inc. Miniature Railway Ride

Kids love trains. And who can blame them? Seeing how each carriage links together and move on a track is amazing. If your little ones are train-obsessed, then they will absolutely love to ride one. On your visit to Toowoomba, why not drop by the Toowoomba Live Steamers Inc. so the whole family can experience riding the club’s miniature railway!

The club was founded in 1973 by a group of keen volunteers. It was originally named Toowoomba Model Steam Locomotive Club. Due to the club members’ fascination and interest towards steam traction engines as well as steam engines, the club was renamed to Toowoomba Live Steamers in the late 1980s.

Besides those interests, there are also members who are into diesel locomotives and any type of locomotive propulsion. So 2004, Toowoomba Live Steamers became incorporated as is now known as the Toowoomba Live Steamers Inc.

Since their foundation in 1973, the club operated at the former Willow Springs Adventure Park which is now the Springs Garden World. But they transferred to Kearney Springs Historical Park where they operated from 1996 to 2016. Then in 2017, Toowoomba Live Steamers Inc. relocated to Lemway Park, Lemway Avenue.

Toowoomba Live Steamers Inc. Miniature Railway Ride at Lemway Park are available on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 11am to 3pm. The ride costs $2 per person. Each ride consists of one lap of the railway which is approximately 900 m long. The train rides take around 8 to 10 minutes.

  • Explore the Transport and Main Roads Heritage Centre

After a train ride, how about exploring the one and only road building museum in Australia? The Transport and Main Roads Heritage Centre educates visitors of the history of road planning, construction and design in Queensland. This also includes the conditions under which road workers laboured all the way to the modern plant and equipment we see on the roads today.

Moreover, the museum showcases various exhibits as well as interactive experiences for both adults and kids. Make sure to check out the stories shared through interpretive panels, multimedia, oral histories, photographs, and other displays of historic materials.

As mentioned, there are also interactive displays the kids would love. There is the Transport and Main Roads Heritage Centre cartoon characters as well as the interactive children’s trail.
