Just 13 kilometres from the Toowoomba CBD, Highfields Falls is a great place to escape to the countryside and birdwatch. There are two one-way walks, Bowerbird and Cuckoo-Dove, and five walking circuits also named after the local birds. The walks are short and relatively undemanding but offer many photo-taking opportunities and the perfect escape to nature!
The Bowerbird and Cuckoo-Dove bushwalks both take a few minutes and end at Highfields Falls. The spring-fed waterfall is a sight that’s well worth seeing and, according to locals, never dries out even in severe droughts!
The five walking circuits, namely Yellow Robin, Walking Lorikeet, Rosella, Kingfisher and Golden Whistler, take between 10 and 20 minutes with each being a scenic sightseeing loop with gentle elevations, native bushland to see, unique birdlife and some parts even giving the feeling of being in a rainforest.
How to Get to Highfields Falls Toowoomba
There are a few ways to reach Highfields Falls from central Toowoomba:
1. From Toowoomba, travel north on the New England Highway and turn right on to Recreation Reserve Road and continue for 1.4 km onto James Byrne Road where you can park your car and enter the park.
2. An alternative way perfect for long vehicles or if towing a trailer or caravan is to travel north from Toowoomba on the New England Highway, turn right on to Recreation Reserve Road, another turn right into James Byrne road and then left into Barber Road.
3. Travel north from Toowoomba on the New England Highway, turn right at the traffic lights to the south of Dau Road and then, at the end of the road, park your car at the park entrance on Kleve Road.
Overall, Highfields Falls is worth a visit! Please note however that pets are not allowed in the park.
